Introducing the Chevrolet Blazer, a versatile SUV belonging to a nameplate that has been around ever since 1969. One of its standout qualities has to be its sporty styling. With bold lines, a muscular stance, and a distinctive front grille, the Blazer exudes a sense of adventure and athleticism. It effortlessly stands out from the crowd and appeals to those seeking a vehicle that reflects their dynamic personality.

Beyond its eye-catching exterior, the Blazer also delivers pleasant rides, thanks to its well-tuned suspension system that absorbs road imperfections, ensuring a smooth and comfortable driving experience. However, while the Blazer offers several commendable features, it’s not without its flaws, leaving some customers yearning for more.

In this 2023 Chevrolet Blazer review, we will evaluate this midsize SUV’s engine, performance, interior comfort, safety, market pricing, warranty, and more, so you can have a clear idea about whether it’s the right fit for you or should you look elsewhere.

Unmatchable in terms of sporty exterior styling
Spacious interior and cargo
Offers a pleasant ride quality on all road conditions
No electrification to amp up fuel economy
Competitors offer greater value for money
Use of inexpensive plastic materials in the interior

Performance, Engine, and Comfort

The Chevrolet Blazer offers two powerful engines that deliver impressive performance. Drivers can choose from various engine options, including a robust V6 engine, providing ample horsepower and torque. Blazer prioritizes comfort for both the driver and passengers—its spacious interior provides generous legroom and headroom, allowing you to relax and enjoy the journey. Whether it’s a long road trip or running errands around town, you’ll have a balanced experience with this midsize SUV.

Engine & Performance

Let’s have a look at Blazer’s engine options and analyze whether their performance meets your expectations.

Under the hood of the Chevy Blazer is a 2-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 228 hp. It also has a 3.6-liter V6 generating 308 hp for those who want more power.

The engines pair with nine-speed automatic transmission.

The vehicle comes with front struts and rear multi-link suspension.

You can expect responsive and accurate steering from the Chevy Blazer. If you want even more refined steering, the RS trim is the right one for you.

Safety & Reliability

The vehicle received an overall ‘Good’ rating from IIHS, and JD Power gave it a reliability score of 85/100.

If we talk about Blazer’s braking performance, the lineup sets high standards with its well-designed braking system. It comes with 12.6-inch vented discs for front brakes and 12.4-inch vented discs for rear brakes. These sizable disc brakes provide excellent stopping power and efficient heat dissipation, ensuring reliable and consistent braking performance even when you find yourself in demanding driving situations.

The Blazer comes equipped with dual front side-mounted airbags, which provide crucial protection to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side collision. It’s also equipped with front, rear, and third-row head airbags, ensuring that all occupants are safeguarded from potential head injuries. Another standard feature is passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation system, which adds an extra layer of safety by automatically detecting the presence of a passenger and adjusting airbag deployment accordingly.

Chevy offers a ton of electronic safety features in this lineup. Some important ones are pre and post-collision safety systems, stability control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, 4-wheel ABS, and tire pressure monitoring, among others.

The Blazer comes equipped with dusk sensing headlamps, which automatically activate in low-light conditions, ensuring optimal visibility when you’re sitting behind the wheels. The daytime running lights provide enhanced visibility to other drivers, even during daylight hours, improving overall safety on the road. The 2023 Blazer also comes with LED headlamps that offer superior brightness and clarity, illuminating the road ahead with exceptional precision.

Traction control

Available as a standard feature, traction control provides enhanced stability and control during various driving conditions, allowing you to confidently navigate through challenging terrains and adverse weather conditions. By continuously monitoring wheel slippage and adjusting power distribution to individual wheels, the traction control system helps prevent loss of traction and allows the vehicle to maintain optimal grip on the road.

Fuel Economy

Blazer’s fuel economy numbers are quite good, but if we compare with competitors like Hyundai Santa Fe or Honda Passport, this one falls short.

Engine size

The lineup offers 2 engine sizes, one is a 2-liter variant and the other is of 3.6 liters. If you’re looking for efficiency, the base engine is the one to choose.

Gas per mileage consumption

The base engine offers 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the more powerful V6 offers 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

While Chevrolet tries to maintain a posh-looking interior, the use of plastics here and there somehow take away its glamor. Features like ambient lighting and intuitive climate control sweeten the deal, but we still cannot say it’s the best in its class.

The front seats are comfortable enough with 41 inches of legroom and height adjustable bucket seats. The rear seats have 39.6 inches of legroom and heated seats, ensuring the occupants feel comfortable during long road trips.

The interior design prioritizes practicality. It is clutter-free with ample storage pockets to store your daily essentials.

The 10-inch touchscreen display comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless charging as standard. The seamless user interface makes it super easy to use, even for those who are not so tech savvy. Optional features include WiFi hotspot and a premium Bose audio system.

Overall height and space

This midsize SUV is 191.9 inches long, 76.7 inches wide, and 67 inches in length. It has a ground clearance of 7.5 inches, and the wheelbase is 112.7 inches.

Trunk space

You get 31 cubic feet at the back of the rear seats and 64 cubic feet at the back of the front seats with the rear seats folded.

Price and Extras

The market pricing seems to be slightly on the higher side if we consider the features this lineup brings to the table. If you’re looking for a good balance of quality and affordability, you may take a look at its widely popular competitor Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Market Price

Chevy Blazer comes in 4 trim levels—2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier. The middle trim 3LT gives the most value for your money, as it brings along the more powerful engine option with higher towing capacity.

Trim Level Base Price
2LT $36,495
3LT $40,659
RS $44,195
Premier $44,195

You can get this lineup in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive setup, depending on the trim level you choose to buy.

The 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is backed by a 3-year or 36000 miles of general warranty, 5-year or 60000 miles of drivetrain warranty, and 6-year or 100,000 miles of rust warranty. It also comes with 5-year or 60000 miles worth of roadside assistance and complimentary maintenance of 1 year.

When armed with the right trailering equipment, the vehicle can tow between 1500 to 4500 pounds.

The 2023 Chevrolet Blazer presents a mixed bag of qualities—while the use of cheap interior materials and the lack of electrification may be disappointing for a section of car enthusiasts, we must recognize the vehicle’s positive attributes. The Blazer boasts a spacious interior that provides ample room for passengers and cargo, making it a practical choice for those looking for a family SUV. Smooth rides and excellent styling add to its appeal, but competitors like the Grand Cherokee offer better quality in terms of interior materials and have embraced electrification.

As a prospective buyer, you have to weigh the pros and cons and look at its pricing to make an informed decision.
