Overview

(4.5/5)

The Porsche Macan 2021 is all about performance and style. The Macan series consists of the standard Macan, Macan S, and Macan GTS.

Ever since the German carmaker first launched Macan in 2014, it’s been the hot favorite among luxury car enthusiasts. This crossover SUV has undergone a significant evolution in these years, with 2021 introducing a series of updates.

The first thing you’ll notice is the beautiful curves of the exterior. Porsche has been paying close attention to aerodynamic design, with a drag coefficient of just 0.36 Cd (for Macan S). Plus, it’s also designed with a hybrid chassis that offers optimum handling while taking care of emissions at the same time.

Pros
A premium SUV with elements of a sports car
Gorgeous exterior
Powerful engine with impressive performance
Perfect for tracks as well as everyday use
Cons
Not compliant with Android Auto
Most of the offerings are available as add-ons and are not a part of the base model
The cargo area could have been bigger
Rear seats are not spacious enough

Performance, Engine, and Comfort

(4/5)

Being a luxury sports crossover, Macan doesn’t compromise on either comfort or performance. If we were to choose, the second trim Macan S would be a sweet spot in terms of power, performance, price, and fuel economy.

Engine & Performance

(4/5)

Porsche offers an impressively swift ride with this vehicle, which is not usual for SUVs. As this one has been made with an athletic intent, it feels almost as if you’re riding a sports sedan. You can expect a smooth and well-controlled ride.

Engine and gear

Macan S runs on a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 348 hp. It takes only 4.7 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, which is slightly higher than the outgoing model. The upgraded GTS variant comes with a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, with an output of 375 hp.

Suspension & Ride

This crossover carries the strains of a sports car and offers a smooth, accurate, and well-controlled ride. The air suspension system with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) on Macan S results in dynamic performance with optimum comfort.

Handling

The driving experience is exhilarating in the Porsche Macan 2021. It’s agile, easy to drive, and allows the driver to ride in style. You get standard all-wheel drive across all trims, but if you want the most out of your vehicle, you can do so with the help of adaptive suspension and summer tires.

Towing

Macan ’21 is equipped with a maximum towing capacity of up to 4409 pounds.

Safety & Reliability

(4/5)

The lineup is yet to be tested for safety by the IIHS or NHTSA, but it brings along a host of safety and driver-assist features. From upgraded electronic additions to convenient breaks, airbags, and security cameras, Macan offers an overall good deal in the safety department.

Electronics

The Porsche Macan 2021 has automatic emergency braking to warn you if it detects an imminent collision with a nearby vehicle or object. It also offers adaptive cruise control to help keep you at the right distance from the car ahead. And finally, it has lane assist to help you stay in your lane while driving.

However, these functions are available only as add-ons and are not a part of the standard offering.

Breaks

Macan is equipped with anti-lock brakes. It also features stability control, which makes sure that the driver doesn’t lose control of their ride.

Airbags

The vehicle has front impact airbags and side-impact airbags, overhead airbags, and pretensioners.

Camera

The rearview camera on the new Porsche Macan 2021 offers you excellent visibility in the back, while the 360-degree view camera helps you to find a parking spot without having to really look around the car. The rear-view camera helps you see what’s behind you while it’s in reverse, and the park assist feature can make parallel parking a walk in the park.

Fuel Economy

(3.5/5)

The fuel economy of this crossover is nothing remarkable, but it’s at par with its nearest competitors. While we cannot call Porsche Macan the most fuel-efficient, the 2-liter engine isn’t very fuel-hungry either.

Gas per mileage consumption

The base model offers 19 mpg and 23 mpg, in city and highway respectively. For the medium trim, you will get 18 mpg for the city and 24 for the highway, which changes to 17 mpg/ 22 mpg for the GTS trim. (Assuming all are all-wheel drive) .

Interior

(3.5/5)

Considering the hefty price tag of the Macan, the interiors seem to be quite average. It looks grand and luxurious without a doubt, but it still somehow falls short of its competitors. If you wish to upgrade the interior material and opt for something like leather, you’ll have to shell out a ton of extra amounts, an additional $2330, to be specific.

Dashboard & Infotainment

The steering wheel feels light, but it’s still comfortable to handle. The dashboard features an infotainment system with an 8.4” screen. It allows you to control all your entertainment needs while on the road and helps you find your way around the city with ease. It boasts seamless smartphone integration to help you keep on top of all your contacts and social media. It also comes with Apple Carplay compatibility for seamless integration with your phone, but it doesn’t include Android Auto. It has wireless charging for your mobile devices.

If you want to make your Macan at par with the latest tech, you’ll have to spend some extra bucks. You can get 12 V charging outlets and USB ports are scattered all around the cabin, to make the vehicle fully equipped for a long road trip.

Driver and passenger seats

The driver seat and the front passenger seats come with power-adjustable technology for optimum comfort, but the rest seem to be too bland for a model as grand as this one. The rear passenger area is less roomy than most other vehicles, which can be inconvenient for long rides, for the passengers seated at the back.

Trunk space

The trunk space is not exceptionally spacious, but it can fit in quite a bit of luggage easily. The regular boot size of this vehicle is 488 liters, which can be expanded up to 1503 liters if you fold up the rear seats.

Price & Extras

(4/5)

The price of this compact crossover is on the higher side, more so because there are multiple options for upgrading to advanced and more luxurious features. For those looking for the swiftness of a sports car and the comfort of an SUV combined into one vehicle, Macan is worth the cost.

Market price

Macan is available between a price range of $50,000 to $75,000, roughly, without any add-ons. The base trim is priced at $53,450, the second trim S comes with a price tag of $61,550, whereas the top model is available for a whopping $73,450. It may not be the most affordable, but it doesn’t disappoint in terms of luxury and performance.

TRIM LEVELS PRICE
Base $53,450
S $61,550
GTS $73,450

Warranty

Now coming to warranty, Porsche offers a limited warranty of 50,000 miles or 4 years. The powertrain comes with a warranty of 10,000 miles. Along with every purchase, Porsche provides complimentary maintenance for up to 10,000 miles or 1 year.

Awards

The 2021 Porsche Macan has received a reliability rating of 84/100 from JD Power, based on quality, driving experience, resale, and dealership experience.

Verdict

There is no doubt that this high-performance car will make your life a lot more convenient on the roads. The excellent driving experience makes it a popular choice among connoisseurs, but the only issue is that it’s not very cost-efficient.

Overall, you can say that the Porsche Macan is everything a crossover SUV should be. It’s stylish, it’s fast and it offers the driver control at all times. If you’re in the market for a new Porsche sports car, you can’t go wrong with this one.
